Lap Band Surgery

Lap band surgery is a new variation of weight loss surgery for the clinically obese. It involves a laparoscopic surgery and the application of a band which reduces the size of the stomach. It has several advantages over other types of bariatric surgery. For example, there is less trauma and pain, and the procedure is less invasive for the abdominal wall. Also, there is no cutting or stapling of the stomach, and the surgery is completely reversible.

If you undergo this type of surgery, you will need a much shorter hospitalization period than those individuals who choose the Basic weight loss surgery. Usually, patients are ready to go home in 48 hours. Also, because this is not bypass surgery, the anatomical function of the stomach is not changed. Instead, the band creates a smaller upper portion of the stomach, called a neostoma, which leads the patient to feel full after consuming a much smaller amount of food.
